May 31 - June 1 Aix-en-Provence

On this Friday we just lazed about the new accommodations.  Cindy tried out the pool and we went for groceries, did some reading and enjoyed the first bit of warm sunny weather we've had in France since we left.

On Saturday we headed into Aix to go to the huge Saturday market and check out the city.  Here's a few photos from Saturday.

An oddly disturbing custom we've observed in Spain as well.  Groups of guys or girls going around with one being humiliated.  Perhaps this is a bachelor party type ritual.  Here the guy is dressed in a badly fitting French maid outfit with strips of hair waxing affixed to him that the other encourage bystanders to rip off.  The girl in the foreground with the pleasure of this is from London Ontario.

  1. Would be interesting to know what that custom is all about. In Brasil, they do that to each person who passes the vestibular exam to get into college.

  2. Usually bachelor/bachelorette parties in France involve some kind of public humiliation (getting dressed up in a silly costume, going downtown and having to fulfill "gages" dares). Usually quite a bit of liquor is involved too.
