Drove up to St. Remy-de-Provence to check out their Wednesday market. For a tiny community it was quite huge. To give you a sense of the crowds, Cindy and I wandered separately then managed to cross at the same pedestrian crossing in opposite directions, looking for each other at that time but not seeing each other. Took another 10 minutes to get back together. We can't begin to imagine what it's like here during the height of tourist season.

On the south side of St. Remy is a Roman settlement, called Glanum. We didn't go in because we've been getting tired of paying admission fees for everything (normally in the 8-15 euro per person range). (43°46'35.1"N, 4°49'51.9"E) |
Then we carried on to Les Baux-de-Provence, an ancient cliff top town with the ruins of a castle. Despite all the glowing comments about this place in the tourist guides, it was a great disappointment. Interesting to look at, but essentially it was wall to wall restaurants and tourist shops all the way up to the entrance gate to the castle. Keeping in mind that it is ruins, with some created attractions to show what ancient weapons of war were, the admission fees again drove us to take photos from the free vantage points.
